Diatoms - general

  • The Diatom Home Page - hosted by Roger Sweets (Indiana Univeristy). Information of general interest to diatomists and other phycologists. Includes info on how to subscribe to the Diatom-L, the forum for discussion of all matters diatomaceous or siliceous.
  • The International Society for Diatom Research - a source of information about the Society, its ideals, events, history and membership.
  • The California Academy of Sciences, Diatom Collection - an ongoing project to present taxonomic information, images, records of collections, and references pertaining to diatoms.
  • Stunning diatom images - hosted by accomplished Dutch photomicrographer Wim van Egmond who specialises in microscopy of small water-borne creatures using a variety of advanced contrast-enhancing techniques. Some of the best diatom images you'll ever see! Have a look around the rest of his site for some other surprises!
  • Useful software - hosted by Steve Juggins (Newcastle). Software for a wide range of uses in Environmental and Earth Sciences.
  • Diatoms.co.uk - hosted by Klaus Kemp (Microlife Services), specialist in diatom microslides and diatom arrangements. Incredible artistry, incredible patience, an incredibly steady hand! Don't miss this one! Check out our favourite - the Christmas trees!

Diatoms - marine

Diatoms - freshwater, and general palaeolimnology

  • The Paleolimnology Home Page - hosted by Roger Sweets (Indiana Univeristy). Information for those interested in and/or practicing paleolimnology.
  • The Algal Image Laboratory at BGSU - 185+ digitised images of mostly freshwater diatoms. Contains links to both marine and freshwater diatom resources.
  • European Diatom Database (EDDI) - at University College London and Newcastle University. A web-based system of diatom training sets, ecological and taxonomic information, diatom images and transfer functions for performing environmental reconstructions from fossil assemblages.
  • ADIAC: Automatic Diatom Identification and Classification - hosted by the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and University of Algarve. A pilot study concerning the application of image processing and pattern recognition tools to the automisation of diatom identification by computer processing.

Radiolarians

  • Radiolaria.org - an online database containing information about radiolarians - fossil and recent, with images, descriptions, references, synonyms and links to other online resources. Includes PDF downloads of 'Radiolaria' the newsletter of the International Association of Radiolarian Paleontologists.
  • Interrad - International Association of Radiolarian Paleontologists. Includes information on membership and meetings.
  • The Rad Page - hosted by Fabrice Cordey (Lyon). Information about Radiolarians, their occurrences and techniques for their study.
  • Rad World - hosted by Catherine Nigrini, Jean Pierre Caulet & Annika Sanfilippo. A relational database designed to provide information about the taxonomy, and geographical and stratigraphical distribution of all described genera and species of Radiolaria from the Paleozoic through the Cenozoic.
