The TMS is delighted to announce that the next Foraminifera and Nannofossil spring meeting will be hosted by the University of Birmingham on the 19-21st June 2017.The program will encompass oral presentations and extended posters sessions, an icebreaker reception in the Lapworth Museum of Geology, a conference dinner, as well as an optional field excursion and thematic workshops on Monday 19th June.
The theme for this year’s event is “Life in a Changing Ocean”. We strongly encourage submissions that address the vulnerability and resilience of foraminifera and coccolithophores to environmental change, past and present, as well as the interaction between changing marine environments and evolutionary processes and patterns over long timescales.

As always we will place a high value on the contributions made by early career researchers. This year we include:
- Two extended afternoon poster sessions with refreshments (3.30pm – 6pm).
- Dedicated elevator pitch to the whole conference for all early career poster presentation (PhD / post-doc) – 1 slide, 2 minutes.
- Oral presentation sessions with a mix of career stages.
- Prizes for best PhD and best post-doc oral and poster presentations.

By Air
Birmingham Airport has 140 direct flights and an additional 280 possible connections worldwide (http://www.want2gothere.com/bhx/destinations).
From the airport you can take the free ‘Air-Rail Link’ monorail system to Birmingham International Station (~3 minute journey). From Birmingham International there are at least 6 trains per hour (from Virgin Trains and Cross Country operators) to Birmingham New Street Station (in the city centre) and the journey takes ~ 10 mins and costs ~£4-7 for an open return depending on the time of day (See https://www.thetrainline.com/). As an alternative, there are taxis available and the cost (from the airport to the city centre) will vary between £20 and £50.
Birmingham is accessible from all London airports and other local airports. From London Heathrow, we recommend using the rail-air bus link to Reading Railway station, and then direct trains from Reading to Birmingham New St.
By train
Parking on campus can be very busy and standard pay and display car parks are expensive. Available ones are;

[toggle title=”Accommodation”] Birmingham offers a diverse range of hotels, youth hostels, and Airbnb options. Further details of options will be provided in later circulars and on the website. Although accommodation is available near the UoB campus, we recommend staying in the city centre (close to New Street Station), where there is a greater variety of restaurants, pubs and nightlife. The UoB campus has its own train station (University station), and regular trains connect it to Birmingham New Street (two stops, seven minutes travel time) in the city centre, and Five Ways (one stop, three minutes travel time), which is conveniently located for many hotels. Regular buses also connect the University campus to the city.
