Two Ph.D. Positions in Plankton Evolvability

Within the Plankton Evolvability work group at the Institute of Geology and Palaeontology ( of the Charles University’s Faculty of Science, we  are looking for two dedicated Ph.D. students, offering you an exciting  choice between the following projects:

  1. Evolvability of planktonic Foraminifera: Adaptive reactions to environmental change,
  2. Environmental adaptation of the marine phytoplankton and its impact on the marine carbon pump,

You will be a member of an engaging work group with an interdisciplinary background in micropalaeontology, geology, geochemistry, and ecology/evolution and work in collaboration with several internationally recognized colleagues from other research institutes.

We offer you the opportunity to engage in morphometric, geochemical, and systematic work in the marine plankton, and to gain expertise in ecological modelling and quantitative analyses throughout your Ph.D. The specifics of the project are flexible and will be adjusted to the candidates demonstrated talents and interests. The position requires an M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in geology, biology, or a related field. Existing experience in micropalaeontology/ecology and knowledge of the open statistical computing language R will be a surplus.

skill base we are looking for candidates ideally experienced in wellsite and routine micropalaeontology and nannopalaeontology.

The roles will require working within a team on a wide variety of analytical studies, including single or multi-well and reservoir to regional
