SUMMARY:TMS-CFFR Foraminifera Spring Meeting 2025
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION NOW OPEN: \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER\n\n\n\n\n\nOn behalf of The Micropalaeontological Society and the Cushman Foundation of Foraminiferal Research\, we would like to invite you to attend the second joint TMS-CFFR Foraminifera Spring Meeting\, this time organized on June 10-13\, 2025 in Gothenburg (Sweden). \n\n\n\nGothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden and is easy to reach by airplane at Landvetter Airport\, but also by train from Stockholm (Arlanda Airport)\, Copenhagen (Kastrup Airport) and Oslo (Gardemoen Airport)\, and we look forward to welcoming many of you on site. To facilitate participation online the conference will be held in full hybrid mode. Visiting Gothenburg in June will allow you to experience long sunny days\, mild temperatures (15-20°C)\, and the lush greenery of the Gothenburg Botanical Garden and city parks. Gothenburg is also a gateway to one of Sweden’s most beautiful island groups: Gothenburg Archipelago\, which comes to life in June and can be explored by boat. June is just before the peak of the summer tourist season and will offer shorter queues to the most popular Gothenburg attractions such as Liseberg Amusement Park\, The Gothenburg Art Museum\, The Universeum Science Center and The Exhibition Center World of Volvo. \n\n\n\nThe title of the meeting will be “Foraminifera as a marine magnifying glass: tiny details\, big insights from fossils to molecules” to reflect the various aspects of foraminiferal research ranging from paleo-approaches in climate and ocean research to experimental\, Al-based and marine environmental studies\, ecology\, taxonomy\, biogeography\, phylogeny\, as well as fossil applications in industry\, forensics and archaeology. The conference will include a one-day field trip to the newly appointed UNESCO Global Geopark at Kinnekulle with its well-known Cambrian alum shales and Ordovician limestones (June 10)\, and two full days of scientific sessions filled with keynote\, oral and poster presentations at Wallenberg Centre (June 11 & 12). \n\n\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you in Gothenburg! \n\n\n\nIrina Polovodova Asteman\, on behalf of the local organizing committee

SUMMARY:GGRiP (Geochemistry Group Research in Progress): 8-10th April 2025
DESCRIPTION:GGRiP (Geochemistry Group Research in Progress) will be held on the University of Birmingham campus between 8th – 10th April 2025. Registration is now open\, and more information can be found on our website: https://ggrip2025.co.uk/ \n\n\n\nThe Geochemistry Group promotes geochemistry as a discipline and enhances links between the many areas of geochemistry. There is a particular focus on early career geochemists (PhD candidates and postdocs)\, and they look to provide a showcase for new geochemical talent in Great Britain and Ireland. The Geochemistry Group is a Special Interest Group of both the Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and Ireland\, and The Geological Society of London.  \n\n\n\nGeochemistry in micropalaeontology will be a key part of the conference\, with a keynote from Dr. Tom Dunkley Jones\, a nannopalaeontologist based at the University of Birmingham who will be presenting work on coccolithophore organic biomarkers\, and the isotopes and Sr/Ca ratios of calcium carbonate coccolith-plates to reconstruct past ocean and climate change.  \n\n\n\nWe’re also holding an icebreaker with a difference\, as a Fringe-style event in the Lapworth Museum. This will include an Art & Photography competition\, as well as an Open Mic night\, in aid of raising money for the Midlands Art Centre (MAC) Green Futures campaign. We’re looking for singers\, poets\, spoken word artists\, storytellers\, and comedians to take the mic and perform in our Open Mic night. Anyone can take part! \n\n\n\nA strong representation from the micropalaeontological community would be great\, so if you’re working in geochemistry\, please do consider registering and submitting an abstract! Early bird registration and abstract submissions will close on Monday\, 10th March\, with late in-person registration remaining open till the 21st March. Remote delegates can register until Friday 4th April. \n\n\n\nAny questions\, please check the website (https://ggrip2025.co.uk/) or email the local organising committee at ggrip2025@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:MARDI - Artic marine diatom workshop on species ecology and transfer functions
DESCRIPTION:The Marine Arctic Diatoms Working Group\, MARDI\, invites you to join our upcoming workshop on statistical relations between sedimentary diatom assemblages and environmental parameters. The aim of the workshop is to study patterns in a dataset of more than 1000 surface samples across the Arctic marine realm and link the diatom assemblages to modern observations of climate and environment. The outcome will lead to improved understanding of diatom ecology and their use as proxies in paleoceanography\, and the development of transfer functions for quantitative reconstructions. \n\n\n\nThe workshop is open to all\, but for practical reasons\, participation is limited to a maximum of 25 participants. Financial support for attending the meeting is available thanks to funding from the PAGES Research Network\, and the iClimate center of Aarhus University. It will be primarily allocated to early career researchers and/or researchers from low- and middle-income countries. \n\n\n\nMark the dates in your calendar\, and register here if you are interested. The deadline for registration is 15 August\, and a reply about participation and financial support will be provided shortly thereafter. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will start on Wednesday morning\, so participants should count on arriving in Aarhus on Tuesday. On Friday\, we will wrap up in the early afternoon\, so people can travel home in the evening or on Saturday. \n\n\n\nYou can find more information about the MARDI Working Group here: PAGES – MARDI. \n\n\n\nFeel free to forward this invitation to students and colleagues in your network. We hope to welcome many of you to Denmark in October! \n\n\n\nMARDI
