SUMMARY:ISSS Meeting 2025
DESCRIPTION:ISSS Meeting – First CircularDownload\n\n\n\nThe official 2025 meeting of the International Subcommission on Silurian Stratigraphy will take place in Spain\, as agreed by the delegates at the last annual meeting held in Sofia\, Bulgaria\, in September 2024. \n\n\n\nThis year marks the 27th anniversary of the Silurian Field Meeting that took place in Spain and Portugal in June 1998\, which also visited the outcrops in northern Seville. In 2025\, coinciding with the meeting\, the Golden Spike marking the replacement Global Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) of the Telychian Stage of the Llandovery Series will be officially established there. \n\n\n\nSeville is a fitting location for a Silurian meeting due to its special significance in Spanish history\, its status as a very pleasant city full of colour and tourist attractions\, and\, of course\, its proximity to the most complete\, continuous and fossiliferous Silurian sections in Spain. These sections are located in the Ossa-Morena Zone of the Iberian Massif\, within the Natural Park and UNESCO Global Geopark Sierra Norte de Sevilla\, an area of great scenic\, geological\, and cultural value. \n\n\n\nThe Silurian rocks of Seville have attracted geological studies since the late 19th century. However\, it was not until the 1970s that the discoveries of the distinguished French geologist Michel Robardet initiated a series of investigations into their exceptional stratigraphy and fossil record\, making the region a model area for Silurian studies. \n\n\n\nSeville and its Silurian strata welcome you in September 2025! \n\n\n\nJuan Carlos Gutiérrez-Marco and Sara Romero \n\n\n\nOn behalf of the organisers \n\n\n\nMore information here!

SUMMARY:MARDI - Artic marine diatom workshop on species ecology and transfer functions
DESCRIPTION:The Marine Arctic Diatoms Working Group\, MARDI\, invites you to join our upcoming workshop on statistical relations between sedimentary diatom assemblages and environmental parameters. The aim of the workshop is to study patterns in a dataset of more than 1000 surface samples across the Arctic marine realm and link the diatom assemblages to modern observations of climate and environment. The outcome will lead to improved understanding of diatom ecology and their use as proxies in paleoceanography\, and the development of transfer functions for quantitative reconstructions. \n\n\n\nThe workshop is open to all\, but for practical reasons\, participation is limited to a maximum of 25 participants. Financial support for attending the meeting is available thanks to funding from the PAGES Research Network\, and the iClimate center of Aarhus University. It will be primarily allocated to early career researchers and/or researchers from low- and middle-income countries. \n\n\n\nMark the dates in your calendar\, and register here if you are interested. The deadline for registration is 15 August\, and a reply about participation and financial support will be provided shortly thereafter. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will start on Wednesday morning\, so participants should count on arriving in Aarhus on Tuesday. On Friday\, we will wrap up in the early afternoon\, so people can travel home in the evening or on Saturday. \n\n\n\nYou can find more information about the MARDI Working Group here: PAGES – MARDI. \n\n\n\nFeel free to forward this invitation to students and colleagues in your network. SUMMARY:XV International Palynological Congress
DESCRIPTION:Dear colleagues\, \n\n\n\nPlease allow me to invite you to the XVth International Palynological Congress and XIth International Organization of Palaeobotany Congress at the Clarion Conference Hotel\, Prague\, Czech Republic. The congresses will be held together to provide an opportunity for palynologists and palaeobotanists to see\, hear\, discuss and meet one another after the pandemic restrictions. The meeting will be held in the term: May 27 – 31\, 2024. The organising team of Czech and Slovak palynologists and palaeobotanists believes that the congress will provide an opportunity for palynologists to learn more about plants and for palaeobotanists to learn more about palynomorphs. The interactions of both disciplines will be of benefit to all. \n\n\n\nThe meeting is promoted by the collective efforts of the International Federation of Palynological Societies (IFPS) and the International Organisation of Palaeobotany (IOP). \n\n\n\nWe hope you enjoy your stay! \n\n\n\nJiří BekChair of Organizing Committee \n\n\n\nJiří KvačekVice-Chair of Organizing Committee
