Life of Retaria Seminar Series – Molecular Clocks

Just a reminder! If you have ever wondered how a molecular clock works and how it can be used to bridge the gap between the biological and palaeontological record please attend the upcoming workshop!

Please join us for the next seminar in our Life of Retaria Seminar Series on July 16 @16:00 CET (Paris time) at the following link: https://ubc.zoom.us/j/64645111451?pwd=IZVeXgfICaQnLDfzJpIaznfhj3Nabo.1

For this seminar, we have prepared a workshop on phylogenetics and molecular clock calibration. We would like to make more accessible molecular approaches, break myths, introduce basic concepts and showcase practical examples, hoping to bridge the micropaleontological and the Life of Retaria communities. We will briefly show where to find molecular data, how to run phylogenies, how to interpret phylogenies and how to calibrate the molecular clock, so that the interested audience can begin to explore the fascinating world of DNA comparative approaches.

Raphael Morard, Mattia Greco and Miguel M. Sandin will be sharing their experience, with the help of micropaleontological experts Adam Woodhouse and Johan Renaudi.

**Note: this seminar will be recorded and uploaded to the following YouTube channel for 2 weeks after it has concluded: https://www.youtube.com/@TheLifeofRetaria

Sincerely,
The organising committee

The Micropalaeontological Society

Towards the advancement of the education of the public in the study of Micropalaeontology

The Micropalaeontological Society (TMS) exists “to advance the education of the public in the study of Micropalaeontology” and is operated “exclusively for scientific and educational purposes and not for profit”. It was initiated as The British Micropalaeontological Group (BMG) in 1970, following a proposal by Professor Leslie Moore of the University of Sheffield and several colleagues who wished to organise a group of palaeontologists with a mutual interest in the micropalaeontological study of British type sections and the provision of a forum for the communication of their results.
