Volunteer as TMS Treasurer

My term of office as society Treasurer will conclude in November 2024, and the TMS is now looking for a volunteer to take up this role. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving in this positions and highly recommend the experience to others.

If you are interested in getting involved with TMS and taking up this role, please get in touch with myself (treasurer@tmsoc.org) and/or the Secretary (secretary@tmsoc.org) and kindly send us a short biography and motivation statement. The deadline for expressing interest is 15 October 2024. Please note that if more than one person expresses an interest, the decision will be put to the TMS committee for voting.

The Treasurer is an important role as one of the three main officers and a trustee of the society, with the President and Secretary. You are responsible for keeping the TMS finances in order.

The Treasurer sets the society budget annually, and through the year records expenditure and expenditure commitments vs. the budget and reports back to the committee. They also review the affordability of any proposed expenditure. At the end of each year the Treasurer produces summary reports recording income and expenditure that are presented to the Society membership at the Annual General Meeting and organises financial audits as required. It is highly desirable that the Treasurer attend all committee meetings and have reasonable IT skills (e.g., Excel, use online banking, filter emails, etc.). The TMS bank accounts are with a UK bank so it would be beneficial (but is not essential) for the treasurer to be UK-based to facilitate bank visits.

The Treasurer serves for one term of three years with the possibility of an extension for a further three-year term.

All of the best,

Manuel Viera

The Micropalaeontological Society

Towards the advancement of the education of the public in the study of Micropalaeontology

The Micropalaeontological Society (TMS) exists “to advance the education of the public in the study of Micropalaeontology” and is operated “exclusively for scientific and educational purposes and not for profit”. It was initiated as The British Micropalaeontological Group (BMG) in 1970, following a proposal by Professor Leslie Moore of the University of Sheffield and several colleagues who wished to organise a group of palaeontologists with a mutual interest in the micropalaeontological study of British type sections and the provision of a forum for the communication of their results.
