Travel, accommodation & information about Gothenburg

Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden and is easy to reach by airplane at Landvetter Airport, but also by train from Stockholm (Arlanda Airport), Copenhagen (Kastrup Airport) and Oslo (Gardemoen Airport), and we look forward to welcoming many of you on site. Visiting Gothenburg in June will allow you to experience long sunny days, mild temperatures (15-20°C), and the lush greenery of the Gothenburg Botanical Garden and city parks. Gothenburg is also a gateway to one of Sweden’s most beautiful island groups: Gothenburg Archipelago, which comes to life in June and can be explored by boat. June is just before the peak of the summer tourist season and will offer shorter queues to the most popular Gothenburg attractions such as Liseberg Amusement Park, The Gothenburg Art Museum, The Universeum Science Center and The Exhibition Center World of Volvo.

View of the Harbor Channel and Gothenburg city center on a sunny day from Brunnsparken, located next to the Gothenburg Central Station.

If you land in Landvetter Airport, regularly running airport shuttles (Flygbussarna) will bring you to the first stop in the city center, Korsvägen (~25 min trip). Airport bus tickets are available for purchase either online on the Flygbussarna app, directly at a terminal at the exit of the airport or from the bus driver.

If you plan to land in Stockholm, Copenhagen or Oslo, Gothenburg is also easily accessible by train or bus (Bus4You) from these locations and will bring you to the central train station (Göteborgs Centralstation) within 3-4 hours.

We will soon update our webpage with suggestions for accommodation, depending on your budget.

Venue & Directions

The TMS-CFFR Foraminifera Spring Meeting 2025 will be hosted in Gothenburg, which is one of the most sustainable cities in the world. The conference will be held at the Wallenberg Conference Center, which is a part of meeting services at the University of Gothenburg and can accommodate events from small board meetings to big international conferences. The Wallenberg Center works towards reducing university CO2 emissions and is environmentally certified according to the international ISO14001 standard. Here you will enjoy a nice variety of meals reflecting seasonal and locally or sustainably sourced (MSC/ASC and Fairtrade) vegetables and fruits, high quality vegetarian food and MSC, ASC or KRAV certified fish and seafood. The center foyer will be used for registration, poster sessions, exhibition by sponsors, and coffee breaks. Lunch and dinner will also be served at the same building.

The TMS-CFFR Foraminifera Spring Meeting 2025 will start with an icebreaker reception on June 10 at Natrium, the newly built Science Faculty Campus building hosting today five departments (Marine Sciences; Geosciences; Chemistry and Molecular Biology; Biology and Environmental Sciences, and Conservation).

Scientific sessions will take place at the Wallenberg Conference Center (Medicinaregatan 20, 413 90 Göteborg), a few minutes away from Natrium, on June 11-12, 2025.

Both Wallenberg Center and Natrium can be easily reached by several tram and bus lines (Medicinaregatan and Sahlgrenska Huvudentré stops). You can buy public transport tickets directly by card in every bus and tram or on the Västtrafik app on your smartphone. To plan your visit, you can use the Västtrafik Travel Planner to find a suitable connection. Please type “Medicinaregatan 20A Göteborg” as your destination in the planner.

Depending on the weather, Styr & Ställ city bikes (through the Nextbike app) are also a nice way to travel in the city and to arrive at the conference venues as there is a Styr and Ställ bike station (Medicinaregatan 13, 413 90 Göteborg) located near the Wallenberg Conference Center.

The Micropalaeontological Society

Towards the advancement of the education of the public in the study of Micropalaeontology

The Micropalaeontological Society (TMS) exists “to advance the education of the public in the study of Micropalaeontology” and is operated “exclusively for scientific and educational purposes and not for profit”. It was initiated as The British Micropalaeontological Group (BMG) in 1970, following a proposal by Professor Leslie Moore of the University of Sheffield and several colleagues who wished to organise a group of palaeontologists with a mutual interest in the micropalaeontological study of British type sections and the provision of a forum for the communication of their results.
