Scientific Sessions/Research Themes
Since we have only received three session proposals by 02/12/2024, the organizing committee has decided to subdivide the conference into four large research themes, to invite as many of you as possible to attend the meeting. Please see below the list of research themes covering (but not limited to) a wide range of topics in foraminiferal research.
- Foraminifera Shells as Signal Carriers for Geochemical Proxies
- Shell chemistry and its ability to reflect temperature, salinity, oxygen, ocean pH, nutrient conditions, etc.
- Advancements in geochemical proxy analysis and calibration.
- Multiproxy Approaches
- Reconstructing the Oceans
- Deep-Time Paleoceanography and Biostratigraphy
- Foraminiferal contributions to understanding oceanographic changes and stratigraphic correlations in Earth’s history.
- Multiproxy approaches with planktonic and benthic foraminifera
- Integrating geochemical, sedimentological, and biological data to provide a clearer picture of ancient pelagic and benthic environments.
- Foraminiferal Big Data: unraveling environmental patterns, diversity changes and ecosystem responses across time and scales
- Foraminifera Ecology, Taxonomy, Diversity and Environmental Applications
- Ecological niches and roles of foraminifera in pelagic and marginal-marine ecosystems.
- Challenges and updates in taxonomy and documenting diversity across time and space
- Biomonitoring with foraminifera to study modern environmental changes e.g. pollution, deoxygenation, ocean acidification, habitat shifts, etc.
- Obtaining in situ-reference conditions with paleoecological approaches
- Foraminifera Biology, Experimental Studies and Molecular Approaches
- Physiological responses of foraminifera to environmental stresses in laboratory (culturing) and natural experiments.
- Studies on growth, reproduction, and calcification
- Feeding experiments
- Cellular, physiological and morphological adaptations to extreme conditions
- Molecular studies, and their insights into foraminifera diversity, reproduction and adaptation.
- Applications of molecular tools in resolving species-level taxonomy and evolution and phylogenies.
- Foraminiferal Big Data: Unraveling Spatial Diversity Patterns and Ecosystem Changes
Information for Presenters
Oral Presentations
All oral presentations shall be prepared either as a Powerpoint (.pptx) or PDF in a format “On Screen Show (16:9)” – you can select this under File/ Page setup or under Design/ Slide Size in PowerPoint. Presentations will be limited to 10-12 minutes (leaving 3-5 minutes for questions and discussion). Due to the conference running in a hybrid mode, please note that you will not be allowed to use your own computer, so we kindly advise all participants to upload their talks early in the morning during both days while attending onsite.
For online presenters: you will join the conference as a webinar panel speaker and a personal Zoom-link and details of how to share your presentation will be communicated to all online participants as conference is approaching.
Poster Presentations
All posters should be prepared in a portrait A0 format (84,1 x 118,9 cm / 33,1 x 46,8 inch). All posters will be on display throughout the entire conference.
For online poster presenters: you will have an opportunity to advertise your poster via 3-min speed talks – please see website for our conference program (coming later this week). Please note, that if you would like to have your poster IRL in Gothenburg on display throughout the conference, you will need to send your posters to us 1-2 weeks before the conference. Please contact organizers for further questions.
